UAkronPark Introduces Compact Car Parking Spaces

Defined by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), compact cars fall between subcompacts and mid-sized cars in size. Popular compact car models in the USA include:
- Honda Civic
- Toyota Corolla
- Hyundai Elantra
- Nissan Sentra
- Mazda3
- Kia Forte
- Subaru Impreza
- Volkswagen Jetta
- Chevrolet Cruze
- Ford Focus
- Honda Insight
- Toyota Prius
- Hyundai Ioniq
- Volkswagen Golf
- Mini Cooper
Vehicles parking in the campus’s new compact car spaces must meet the compact size criteria to ensure fairness and efficiency in their use. The entirety of any vehicle parked in a space that is designated for compact vehicles must be within the painted lines. That is, no part of the vehicle can be parked on or hanging over any of the painted lines.
By redesigning to account for compact spaces we create additional space for vehicles to maneuver as they navigate the lot. This enhancement aids in the flow of traffic and reduces the likelihood of accidents and vehicle damage.
Where to Find Compact Car Spaces on Campus
Compact car spaces can be found in the North Campus Parking Deck, East Campus Parking Deck, and South Campus Parking Deck. Please be aware that parking a non-compact car in these spaces is a violation of Rule 20 of UAkronPark Rules & Regulations:
20) Compact Vehicle Spaces:
a) The entirety of any vehicle parked in a space that is designated for compact vehicles must be within the painted lines. That is, no part of the vehicle can be parked on or hanging over any of the painted lines.
By introducing compact car spaces, UAkronPark promotes a smoother and safer parking experience. We encourage all eligible compact car drivers to take advantage of these new spaces, designed to facilitate better access and convenience.
